Roger D. Morr
May 19, 1942 ‒ December 03, 2009
Mount Gilead, Ohio
Roger D. Morr, 67, of Mount Gilead died Thursday evening, December 3, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long and hard fought battle with cancer.
He was born on May 19, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of the late Robert E. and Ethel May (Kendall) Morr.
Roger grew up in Perrysville, Ohio and graduated from their high school in the class of 1961.
On June 6, 1991 Roger married Shelby J. Riffe. Together they enjoyed traveling and this summer they visited North Dakota, finishing their tour of all 50 States. Aside from Hawaii and Alaska they drove to them all!
Roger was a 37 year employee of Kroger where he worked as a produce manager in various stores throughout north central Ohio. His longest tenure was spent at the Mount Vernon store for over 25 years. Roger was very talented in his role as produce manager, as he was part of a group who were sent to stores that were struggling and needed to be “saved” from closing. They would stay long enough to revive the struggling store and then move on to the next in need. He also won several awards for his produce displays. The man could sell produce!
He was a member of the Canaan Township Grange and an active volunteer for the Boy Scout Troop #56.
Roger was also a skilled woodworker; making cabinets, bookcases, and desks.
He enjoyed the peaceful solitude of a good fishing trip and probably enjoyed the company more than the fishing.
Roger will be remembered for his ornery yet playful nature. Spend any time with Roger and you immediately knew he had a great sense of humor. The family recalled an infamous story at Kroger which involved a toupee and the produce department.
While Roger lived a well rounded life, his grandkids were his world. It was always all about the grandkids!
He will be missed by his wife, his son Rusty and his wife Doris of Johnsville, their children Ryan and his wife Bethany, Cody, and Tyler; his son Ron and his wife Joanie of Columbus, their daughter Lindsey and her husband Michael, and their daughter Lillian; her daughter Lynn Melvin of Chesterville and her children Samantha and Kaila; step-daughter Cindy and her husband Mark Hoskey of Chesterville, their daughter Stacy and her husband Travis, and their sons Taylor and Jackson; step-daughter Karen and her husband Joe of Chesterville, and their daughter Andrea; brother Donald Morr of Homosassa, Florida; sisters Norma and her husband George Ramsier of Wooster and Janet Collins of Fort Myers, Florida; and a half sister Joann and her husband Jake Radojcsics of Richland County.
Friends may call on the family on Sunday December 6, 2009 from 2-5 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 North Main Street, Mount Gilead. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Johnsville Grace United Methodist Church, 7369 County Road 242 Shauck, Ohio 43349 with Pastors John Partridge and Joe Graham officiating.
