Roberta Moore

January 13, 1921 ‒ March 12, 2007

Sunbury, Ohio

Roberta Moore, age 86, of Sunbury, died Monday evening, March 12, 2007 at the Cherith Care Center in Delaware, Ohio.

Roberta was born on January 13, 1921, in Estill, Kentucky, one of 13 brothers and sisters to the late James and Effie (Rainey) Hendricks. After graduating from high school, she attended St. Mary’s College in Oxford, Ohio. In her later years, she worked as a cashier and hostess at Bun’s Restaurant, and with her husband in his real estate firm. Roberta liked to sew, quilt, cook for the extended family, go to auctions, and visit with her family and friends. She had a great sense of humor, which she occasionally used to even laugh at herself. Holiday gatherings carried with them mandatory attendance for all family members. She was very focused on keeping her ever-expanding clan together and making sure that peace and harmony were maintained in the group. When family members found themselves in difficult times, she was there to support them. As a mother, sacrifices of many sorts were made for the benefit of the children and grandchildren. As a friend, she was there to help others, and their families, get through the hard times. As a wife, she dealt with the good times and the bad times that come with the commitment of “for better or for worse”. Roberta was a beautiful woman, and a beautiful person. Her personality and presence made being around her a pleasure and a joy. She exhibited great courage and strength in fighting an incurable disease that had already ravaged other members of her family. She maintained her pride and dignity right to the very end. The sum total of her life leaves us with an example of how we should be living ours. She will be missed.

She is survived by sons: James (Diane) Moore of Highland Park, Il., Stephen (Kathy) of Sunbury; daughter: Sally Sutton of Sunbury. Grandchildren: Stephen Moore Jr., Amy Moore Garee, Amanda Moore McGinnis, Benjamin Moore, Joseph Sutton, Jill Sutton Aebker, Jayn Moore Warner, Bethamy Moore, Jamie Moore, and nine great grandchildren. Brothers: Clyde, Charley Wayne, and Paul Hendricks, sisters: Lucille Osborne, Diane Wolfram.

Preceded in death by her husband James A. Moore Sr. in 1976, 4 brothers; and 3 sisters.
