MANSFIELD: Robert W. Denig Jr. passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017 in home. He was 83.
He was born February 18, 1934 in Mansfield to parents Robert W. Sr. & Anna (McKenna) Denig. After he graduated from Mansfield Senior High School with the class of 1953, he proudly served his country by joining the US Army.
Robert worked at the Mansfield Fire Department, where he worked for over 34 years until retiring as Captain, where he saved many lives and touched many more.
In spare time, Robert was very active in the Frank H. Marquis Lodge #690, Past Master Mansfield Chapter #28, Mansfield Council #94, Mansfield Commandery #21 K.T., Past President of High Twelve Club #408, Fellow Craft Club -Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Columbus, and American Legion Post #16.
He was also a lifetime member of 40 et 8 Club, life member of AMVETS Post #26, NRA, Joint Veterans Council, the Joint Veterans Burial Squad Detail for 19 years, 1st youngest member of Mansfield Police Auxiliary, C.B Breakfast Club, former member 17 W Club AARP, Police and Fire Retirees of Ohio, Mansfield Firefighters Local #266, Crawford County Sideband Club, the American Bowling Congress, and a local bowling league where he scored 2 perfect games, and a long time member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Jean Denig; Daughter Jill (Robert) Grundhoefer; granddaughter Anya; and his brother Robert (Kim) Currens; nephews Chris (Kristen) Currens and Matt (Christine) Currens; brother-in-law Chris Reining; nephew Phil (Kathy) Reining; niece Denise (Denny) Tenison and cousin Louis (Carolyn) King.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother Leslie Currens.
The Denig family will receive friends Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home Finefrock Chapel with a funeral service at 1 p.m. Pastor DeWayne Smith will officiate and burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
Contributions in Robert’s memory to Main Street United Methodist Church may be made at the funeral home.
