MANSFIELD: Robert S. Johnson, 74, of Lexington Avenue, Mansfield, died Sunday afternoon, December 21, 2003 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a short illness.
He was born August 21, 1929 in Newark, Illinois, to Severin and Viola (Van Cleve) Johnson.
Robert spent his life working close to the earth as a farmer and farmhand, retiring in 1994, and moving to Mansfield in 1995 from Princeton, Illinois.
An avid handyman, he could often be found repairing tractors or automobiles, and could be depended on to fix something rather than buy new.
A loving husband, and devoted father and faithful grandfather, he is survived by his wife Rose (Wells) Johnson, whom he married July 3, 1952; his daughter and son-in-law Marlene K. and Gerald W. Vogel of Olathe, Kansas; three grandchildren Daniel Lendman and Renea Seacrist both of Mansfield and Christine Marie Lendman of Olathe, Kansas; a sister and brother-in-law Delores Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana, a brother-in-law Robert Krug of Yorkville, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Alice Krug, two others sisters, and three brothers.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at 10 am in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Mr. Royce DeBerry, will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately prior to the funeral service.
