Robert S. Foster, age 83, of Mount Vernon, died Thursday February 1, 2007 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus following a brief illness. Robert was born January 25, 1924 in DuBois Pennsylvania to Leird and Margaret Foster. He served with the U S Army in the Pacific Theater of War during World War Two. Robert was a graduate of the Cincinnati Academy of Art and had been employed as a graphic artist for Continental Can Company and then Peckney both in Mount Vernon.

Robert was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mount Vernon. He was a member of the Knox County Art League and had served as a board member for the Knox County Community Concert Association. Robert had also been active with the Boy Scouts of America and was a past commissioner for the Muskingum Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Surviving are his wife Jean (Travis) Foster whom he married May 26, 1951, his two sons and daughters-in-law Sean and Dawn Foster of Columbus and Kevin and Leslie Foster of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren Chris Foster, Erica (Charles) Kinsey, Aaron Foster, Shayne Foster and Tristan Foster; his brother King D. (Pauline) Foster of Washington Court House and his sister Margaret. Besides his parents a brother Jay Foster preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 PM at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mount Vernon with Rev. Keith Stuart officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the church one-hour before the funeral. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is in charge of arrangements.
