MANSFIELD ~ Robert R. Fancher, age 77, of Mansfield, passed away Saturday afternoon October 2, 2010 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.
He was born March 1, 1933 in Mansfield to George and Irene (Parcell) Fancher, and remained a lifelong Mansfield resident.
He served with the U.S. Army as a medic in the Korean War.
Robert had served as a probation officer with the Richland County courts system, retiring after 20 years of service.
Remembered as a kind and giving man, Robert enjoyed hunting and the out-of-doors.
He is survived by his wife Dolores E. “Debby” (Blank) Fancher, whom he married June 21, 1959; daughters and sons-in-law Cathie & Jamie Jamison of Lexington and Linda & Ted Stone of Lucas; sister and brother-in-law Marilyn & Jim Kochheiser of Mansfield and several nieces and nephews.
The Fancher family will receive friends Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Visitation continues Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed immediately by his funeral service. Father Tony Borgia will officiate. Burial will follow in the Veterans Honor Grounds of Mansfield Cemetery, where the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will hold graveside military honors.
Contributions in his memory are encouraged to MedCentral Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and may be made at the funeral home.
