Robert Luther Wright, 88, of Galion, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 at Primrose Assisted Living in Marion where he and his wife have resided the last two months.
Born Sept. 14, 1924 in Mansfield, he was the son of the late Martin Luther Wright and Matilda Jacobs Wright. He married Ireda Lankford Wright on Nov. 16, 1943 and she survives.
He was a World War II United States Army veteran fighting in the Philippines where he received the Purple Heart for injuries received in combat. He was a member of American Legion Scarbrough Post 243, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. Bob also enjoyed going to Florida in the winter months. He worked for thirty-two years at the former Peabody-Galion where he retired as a receiving clerk.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Lynn Wright of Grove, Okla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Dean Alexander of Galion and Rebecca and Dave Monroe of Martel; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Wright of Galion; seven grandchildren, Rob Tamara Wright, Carole Greg Fleniken, Jeffery Kristen Wright, Adam Bethany Guinther, Veronica Scott Schenz, Brian Vossers and Mark Vossers; fifteen great-grandchildren; one half-sister, Barb Hansen of Marion and one half-brother Aaron Sue Wright of Prospect.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert E. Wright; one granddaughter, Stacy Wright Smith; two sisters, Helen Sautter and Alice Brown and his stepmother, Beulah Herndon.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12 with Rev. Dreama Caudill officiating. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery. Full military graveside honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
