Robert Lee “Bob” Wood, age 74 of Delaware died Monday, August 24, 2009 at Arbors of Delaware following an extended illness.

He was born on October 8, 1934 in Washington D.C. to the late Lester and Mary E. (Floyd) Wood and was a US Army/Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. A self employed contractor, he specialized in both residential construction and remodeling. He formerly owned Davidson & Wood Siding Company. A perfectionist at his trade, every job was completed “Bob’s way or no way”, his way was always the correct way.

One always knew where you stood with Bob. He was a dedicated family man, who deeply cared about his family and their needs. He was a former little league coach, an avid golfer who also enjoyed bowling and fishing.

He was happiest being a prankster and practical joker. Both generous and ornery, he loved unconditionally and always gave a 110 percent of himself at work and at play.

Survived by his loving wife Nancy (Coffey) Wood, who helped make his last 20 years the best. He is also survived by children: Glenda (Leroy) Patterson of Taylorsville, N. C., Patty (Bill) McCain of Conover, N. C., Terry Lee (Jackie) Wood of Madison, Mary E. (Ron) Shackleford of Washington C.H., James K. Wood of Columbus, Patty (Darin) Fairchild of West Liberty, Julie (Tim) Elkins and Jim T. (Mary) Bowe both of Delaware. He treasured time spent with his 12 grandchildren: Misty, Laurie, Ryan, T.J., Chelsea, Lindsay, Toby, Sebastian, Samantha, Kirsten, Luke, Conner and 8 Great-grandchildren: Candace, Austin, Aubrey, Skyler, Alyssa, Kaylena, Gavin, and Bradley, and his special “Angel” nurse Angel Wilson.

He was also preceded in death by his brother Lewis and sisters Helen Baldwin and Janie Overton.

Friends may call Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where services will be held Friday 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Donnie Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the Delaware County Veterans Association.
