Robert Lee “Bob” Donner Jr.

January 24, 1965 ‒ October 10, 2009

Mount Gilead, Ohio

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” (1 Corinthians 13). This passage captures the essence of Bobby Donner Jr., and he has persevered through all of his struggles to a better place. He is now enjoying “his greatest accomplishment” of sharing his love with the Lord in Heaven.

Robert Lee “Bob” Donner Jr., age 44, of Mount Gilead, graduated from this life into Heaven on Saturday morning, October 10, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his loving family following over a two decade battle with multiple sclerosis.

On January 24, 1965, Robert Jr. was born in Evansville, Indiana, the son of Robert Sr. and Joanna (Cartwright) Donner of Wadesville. With his father working in the oil business, his family moved several times throughout his childhood until 1974 when his family chose to make Morrow County officially their home. Bobby graduated from Northmor High School in the Class of 1983.

Shortly following graduation, Bobby began chasing his lifelong dream of flying by joining the Air National Guard. For nearly sixteen years, he served the Air National Guard from the Mansfield-Lahm Airport, a member of the 179th Airlift Wing, and earning numerous medals and awards.

While serving in the Air National Guard, Bobby furthered his education at the Ohio State University earning his bachelor’s degree in Aviation Engineering.

Having met at youth group through the Pines Christian Church, “all in God’s time” Robert married Leana Scott, on September 3, 1988. Together they have shared a love for each other, their family, and the Lord for over twenty years.

For several years, Bobby worked from his home, having a tool rental business known as “the Tool Shed.”

“Faithful till the end,” Bobby was a dedicated member of the Pines Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and chairman of the Mission’s Committee.

With a love for the outdoors, Bobby was ready to fish, any time, any where.

Knowing he wanted to fly since he was a child, Bobby was proud to have earned his piloting license through his training at the Ohio State University and the Morrow County Airport.

Always looking for a good laugh, Bobby had a great sense of humor and was very ornery by nature. Often unable to control his laughter, his family still is wondering what the punch line to some of his jokes were.

Bobby will be dearly missed by his wife, Leana Donner of Mount Gilead; two daughters: Megan (fiancé Brandon Moore) Donner, and Ashley Donner of home; parents: Robert Sr. and Joanna Donner of Mt. Gilead; brother, John (Debbie) Donner of Bellville; sister, Amy Chafins of Johnstown; father and mother-in-law: Ron and Bonnie Scott; three sisters-in-law: Wendy (Tom) Hutchins, Julie (Minister Joe) Thomas, all three of Mount Gilead, and Farah (Minister Cory) Campbell of Hanover; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The Donner family will greet friends from 1 – 3 and 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at the Pines Christian Church, 6775 U.S. Route 42, Mount Gilead, where services celebrating his graduation into Heaven will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., with Evangelist Neil Gilliland serving as Celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow in Shauck Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bobby’s honor to the Pines Christian Church, 6775 U.S. Route 42, Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead.
