Mount Gilead, Ohio

Robert L. “Bob” Staats, age 82, of Mount Gilead, passed away Wednesday morning, January 13, 2021, at Woodside Village Care Center.

On May 22, 1938, Bob was born in Harpster, Ohio, one of 14 children of the late Frederick Staats and Iva (Dummitt) Jump.

Bob served his country in the U.S. Army.

Bob married the love of his life, Arlene L. Larimore on February 14, 1960 in Bellville.  They shared over 60 wonderful years together as husband and wife.

For many years, Bob operated overhead cranes for Perfection Cobey in Galion.  If you asked him what he did for a living, he simply said “I’m a hooker.”

Bob was known for selling produce in Iberia at the produce auctions.  He enjoyed working in his vegetable gardens and driving his tractor.  He also liked fishing, playing cards, especially Poker, and having a beer.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved joking around with everyone.

Bob will be dearly missed by his wife, Arlene, of Mount Gilead; four children: Lois Staats of Iberia, Joann Staats of Galion, Kristine (Ronald) Huggins of Lexington, Eric (Wendy) Staats of Edison; nine grandchildren: Heather, Holly, Lovella, Austin, Dallas, Sam, Kyle, Lyle, Jenny; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Roger (Linda) Staats of Galion; and a sister: Jeanie (Walter) Johnson of Galion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Staats; a granddaughter, Amber West; and 11 siblings.

Bob’s family will greet friends from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2021, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services to honor and celebrate his life will begin there at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Jim Lillo officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in Iberia Cemetery.

Bob’s family would like to give a special “Thank You” to Woodside Village for the wonderful care they provided and to all of the staff, “Yo, Yo, Yo!”

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Snyder Funeral Homes to assist the family in honoring Bob’s life.
