LUCAS~ Robert James “Bob” “Pee Wee” Schmidt, age 63, of Lucas, passed away Thursday afternoon December 11, 2008 in the James Cancer Clinic in Columbus following a courageous year-long battle with cancer.

He was born October 25, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to Steven and Lucille (Lajeonesse) Schmidt, his family moved to Mansfield while Bob was a child, and he remained a lifelong area resident.

A US Navy veteran, Bob served aboard the USS Sarsfield.

For 43 years he worked as a long distance truck driver, serving several companies and logging miles into all 48 contiguous United States, and the Canadian Provinces. He lent his nickname to his own transportation company: Pee Wee Express, from which he retired as owner and operator.

Schmidt, Jr. of Mansfield; his son Troy Schmidt of Lucas; a granddaughter Jamie Nicole Schmidt; a step grandson Ronnie Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law Donald & Lois Schmidt of Aurora, Colorado and Steve & Anita Schmidt of Wadsworth; a sister and brother-in-law Clara & Raymond Kingdom in Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.
