Robert John Titterington, 87, of Delaware Ohio passed away on February 6, 2019 surrounded by his family.
He was born to parents Mildred and Howard Titterington on July 18, 1931 in East Cleveland Ohio. Bob graduated from Orange High School in 1949 and received a BS in Electronic Engineering from Case Institute of Technology in 1953.
His Naval service included stations at Long Beach Naval Shipyard, Newport News Ship Building and Dry Dock Company, and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Bob was granted classified clearance to work on the development of a specialized land-to-sea radar. After serving his country as a Naval Officer for eight years, Bob received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Bob combined his engineering background and business acumen working for several companies across the Midwest, ultimately becoming a small business owner. He later remarked the pinnacle of his career was the development of Phoenix Manufacturing Company from a small business to an international success. Bob was active with professional organizations including President of Outdoor Power Equipment Aftermarket Association (OPEAA).
Bob was married for 64 years to Margaret Ann (nee Murray), who survives him. Their children include: his son Murray Robert (Camilla); Peggy (Edward Velazquez); and Maria (Martin Damp). He was particularly devoted to his two granddaughters Paulina Frances and Evangeline Nicole.
Bob was an amateur radio operator for over 70 years; he received his license in 1946 and responded to the call of W8YBP. Up until recently he communicated with fellow Ham radio operators worldwide. Bob loved his dogs; planting trees; watching the birds; Whitey the squirrel; chocolate ice cream; visiting with friends and neighbors; telling stories of life adventures; reading (several years ago The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich one page a day until he finished); history; geography; and travel to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, South Africa, and many European countries.
Previously, he was a member of the Delaware Evening Kiwanis Club and the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra Board, where he served as treasurer. Bob was a member of Liberty Church for over 30 years. His friendships from Painesville, Liberty Church and current neighbors were treasured to the end.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 19 at 1:00 pm at Liberty Presbyterian Church in Delaware, OH.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to Liberty Presbyterian Church, 7080 Olentangy River Road, Delaware, OH 43015 with the notation “Bob Titterington memorial.”
