Robert H. Carpenter, age 79 of Centerburg died Monday, June 14, 2004 at Parma Community General Hospital.

He was born on May 29, 1925 in Centerburg to the late Clyde and Helen (Updike) Carpenter. Lifelong resident of Centerburg, graduate of Centerburg High School Class of 1944 and a US Army veteran of WW II. He was a retired school bus driver with Centerburg Local Schools and also from the State of Ohio, Dept. of Transportation.

Bob was a helping hand to the Centerburg community, lifetime member of AmVets Post 59, VFW Post 4027, held numerous offices with American Legion Post 460, member of Knox County Joint Veterans Council, Centerburg Conservation Club, honorary member of 37th Division, Past American Legion District Officer, and former member of Central Ohio Joint Fire District Volunteer Fire Dept.

Survived by his loving wife of 55 years: Beatrice Jane (McLaughlin), Children: Robert H. (Debi) Carpenter II of Galion, Dixie L. Stewart of Millwood, Rosalie (James) Stremple of N. Royalton, 8 Grandchildren: Peter Carpenter, Angela (Brian) Warren, Heather Kreager, Jennifer Benes, Heather (Dale) Bailey, Stephanie Stewart, Rene Barber, Jason (Kimberly) Barber, 5 Great-grandchildren: Felicity, Hunter, Emily Warren, Jordan Benes, Tiffany Bailey, Brother: Frank Dewitt (Jean) Carpenter of Galena, Sister-in-law: Kathryn Harper of Stow, Brother-in-law: David (Patsy) McLaughlin of Longboat Key, FL, nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.

Preceded in death by Daughter: Georgia L. Magill in 1995.

Friends may call Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will follow Friday 1:00 p.m., burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Centerburg with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
