Robert H. “Bob” Wolf

MANSFIELD: Robert H. “Bob” Wolf, age 88, of Mansfield passed away Friday morning, June 3, 2011 in Crystal Care Center of Mansfield.
He was born December 29, 1922 in Mansfield, the son of Herman R. and Martha M. (Mynatt) Wolf and was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1941.
Shortly after graduation, Bob joined the work force beginning at White Westinghouse, and also working for Cleveland Pneumatic Tool Company.
He then entered the U.S. Navy where he served four years during World War II and was aboard the USS Chester, a heavy cruiser. He was honorably discharged with the American Theatre Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with six bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars, Good Conduct and Victory Medals.
Upon returning home to Mansfield, Robert resumed his work at Westinghouse.
He married his sweetheart, Esther Marie Harry, on July 23, 1950. Together the couple celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Blessed with a strong work ethic, Robert began delivering the News Journal in his family neighborhood and would later become partial owner of a large warehouse and fabrication center, Mansfield Structural & Erecting Co. He retired in 1982 with 32 years of service. However, Robert’s retirement was not a time for rest, he worked several jobs including J&B Acoustical, where he started the door department, crossing guard for Lexington Schools, and pizza delivery for both Bucks and Domino’s.
A lifelong area resident, Robert was a member of Southside Christian Church where he served as an elder.
He was also active with the Lexington Senior Civic Center, driving people to doctor’s appointments, and taking meals to shut-ins.
An avid gardener, Bob won the Richland County Award for Best Yard denoted by the Mens Garden Club.
In addition to his wife Esther, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Kenneth C. and Ruth Wolf of Lexington, Dr. Steven D. and Julianne Wolf of Cleveland, TN, two daughters and sons-in-law Darlene and Richard Cline of Lexington, and Deborah and Mark Alhes of Dayton; 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law Mary Wolf of Dayton and Virginia Miles of Mansfield, numerous extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by brothers and a sisters and their spouses Edward and Jackie Wolf, Donald F. Wolf, Trula Miles-Richey and William Richey, Samuel and Theresa Miles, Juanita Miles Williams and Howard Williams, Roy Miles.
In the spirit of giving, Robert chose anatomical donation through the Ohio University, College of Osteopathic Medicine, Body Donor Program. A memorial service will be held Saturday July 2, 2011. Music will start at 4:00 pm followed by service at 4:30 pm in Southside Christian Church, 2055 Middle Bellville Road, Mansfield, with the Rev. Paul Lintern officiating.
