Robert F. “Bob” Day, age 84, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 18, 1931 in Bladen, Ohio the son of Aaron and Virginia (Kinder) Day. Bob proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and retired from Jervis B. Webb of Mount Vernon.
He was a former member of Amvets Post #95 and in his free time, Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards with friends and golfing. He was an avid sci-fi reader and especially enjoyed books authored by James Patterson and Tom Clancy.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert R. (Janet) Day, three daughters, Ginny (Rocky) Lane, Margaret (Bob) Hampton and Sherry (Jim) Colopy, 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two sisters, Adaline Smith of Gallipolis and Arlene Smith of Mount Vernon and canine companion Remo.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife Violet Pearl Day, a daughter, Katherine Cacavello, a son, Roger Sweat, a grandson, J.T. Thomas, granddaughters, Sarah Hysell, Krystal DayMcGregor; great grandson, Cash Beheler and a brother, Wayne Day.
A graveside service with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. in Mound View Cemetery. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Robert F. “Bob” Day.
