Robert Eugene Shumaker, 72 of Galion passed away Monday, May 9, 2016 at Galion Pointe after battling multiple Myeloma for six and half years.

He was born May 22, 1943 in Galion and was the son of the late Eugene “Bud” (Evelyn) Shumaker and Marie (McManis) Shumaker-Keyes of Galion. During his teen years, he lived for seven years with his uncle and aunt, Bill and Lucile Kunkel and during that time, he developed a close friendship with Linda Kunkel Keller.

Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vivian (Oberlander) Shumaker who he married on March 5, 1966.

He graduated from Galion High School in 1963 and joined the Ohio Army National Guard, serving from 1964 to 1970. Bob attended St. Paul United Methodist Church in Galion.

Bob worked as a machinist at Cleland Manufacturing. He also worked for 25 years at Galion Amco, Universal Enterprises, Komatsu and for Frank Smart, retiring in 2006. Bob also owned a 41 acre farm in Morrow County and faced the challenges of keeping equipment running and producing crops.

He enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie and Alum Creek with Joann and Clyde Robinson. Bob also enjoyed dancing, Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns football along with any family sporting events. He especially loved spending time with his family.

Along with his wife, Bob is survived by his mom, Marie Keys of Galion; his son, Allen Shumaker of Crestline; his daughters, Vicki (Marvin) Ruhl of Mt. Gilead and Kelly (Adam) West of Mansfield; six grandchildren Scott (Rachel) Ruhl, Stevie Ruhl, Jessica and Nathanel Ruhl, Elijah “Ranger” and Jackson West; two great-grandchildren Leah and Hallie Ruhl; sisters Barbara Hoppe of Galion and Beverly White of Las Vegas; mother-in-law Clara Oberlander of Bucyrus; sisters-in-law Doris (Dale) Bloomfield, Nancy (Charlie) Heinlen, Connie (Dennis) Seville all of Bucyrus, Nancy (Sid) Maples of Sycamore, Susan Burkhart of Bloomville and Paula (Mike) Ridgeway of Nevada.

He is preceded in death by his father; step-father Ed Keyes; father-in-law and mother-in-law Richard (Phyllis) Oberlander and two brothers-in-law Roger Hoppe and G.P. White.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 with Rev. Ash Welch officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Military honors will be conducted by the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church or HomeCare Matters in care of the funeral home.
