Robert Eugene Henry
August 26, 1926 ‒ December 12, 2017
ONTARIO: Robert Eugene Henry, age 91, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in the Ontario home he built with his own two hands in 1952 and took pride in maintaining his whole life.
He was born August 26, 1926 in Ontario to parents Levi Jacob & Doris Lucille (Moon) Henry. After graduating Springfield Twp (now Ontario Schools), he proudly joined the US Marine Corp during WWII, serving in Guam and China. He moved home in 1946 to help run the Henry family store in Ontario. In 1948, he joined the Springfield Twp Volunteer Fire Department as a charter member.
A beautiful young lady named Anna Rogers caught his eye and the pair married on May 23, 1948. Together they raised three sons and shared 64 wonderful years of marriage until she passed away in 2012.
Bob worked as a draftsman with Westinghouse in Mansfield, Galion Iron Works, and Gorman Rupp in Bellville. He was a member of the Ontario United Methodist Church where he participated in the softball league, and also a member of the VFW in Bellville.
Bob was active with sports his whole life and, though he always lived in Ohio, he greatly enjoyed traveling including family retreats to Ohio State Parks, exploring Civil War battlefields with family, and many summer trips to visit beloved family in Georgia. His friends and family will greatly miss Bob’s feisty sense of humor.
He is survived by sons Mike Henry (girlfriend Debra Eckstein) of Ontario, Ron (Angie) Henry of Mansfield, and Roger Henry of Mansfield; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and siblings Eileen Sayre of Mansfield, John Henry of Lexington, Carol Keiser of Mansfield, and Phyllis Beery of Mansfield.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife Anna Henry, and sisters Mary Murphy and Margaret Hause.
The Henry family wishes to extend a special ‘thank you’ to Crystal Care Center, Kindred Hospice, and Comfort Care Home Health for taking such good care of Dad.
His family will receive friends Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 11am to 1pm in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service honoring Bob’s life will begin at 1pm. His grandson Pastor Caleb Henry will speak and burial will be held at a later date in Mansfield Memorial Park.
Contributions in his memory to Kindred Hospice may be made at the funeral home.
