Robert E. “Bob” Diersing

Robert E. “Bob” Diersing, age 98 of Delaware, Ohio died early Tuesday
morning, April 16, 2002 at Sunny Vee Nursing Home in Delaware.
He was He was born on Dec. 28, 1903 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Edward J. and Amelia (Kunkel) Diersing. Robert was a Youngstown resident from 1918 until 1976 at which time he moved to Delaware. In 1924 he graduated with honors from the Rayen School in Youngstown. He was employed as a clerk in the sales department of Truscon Steel Company (LTV) in Youngstown from 1926 to 1958, and as an agent for Andrew Klempay and Sons, Inc., a house moving company in Youngstown.
His family where charter members of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in
Youngstown. Bob is currently a member of St. Mary Parish in Delaware, as well as Council #1056 Knights of Columbus, and an honorary member of Council # 274, Youngstown, “the oldest council west of the Allegheny Mountains.” He supported several charities, in particular those benefiting conservation and children.
Along with the advent of aviation and the automobile, Bob witnessed two Halley’s comets in his lifetime, in 1910 and again in 1986. He enjoyed animals, the outdoors, hunting, history, spectator sports, and traveling. He was a licensed driver through the age of 98 and attributed his longevity “to eating old-fashioned rolled oats”, walking, and facing life with trust in God and a sense of humor. He drew strength from his faith in God and from his Church.
Preceded in death by his wife of 33 years: Mary Rose Klemplay on Jan. 19, 1966, they were married: Sept. 24, 1932, Brothers: Eugene and Frank Diersing, Sister: Anastasia Klempay.
Survived by Son: Robert J. (Carolyn) Diersing of Delaware, Daughter: Sister Mary Ann Diersing of Canfield, 5 Grandchildren & Spouses: Robert C. Diersing, Timothy J. (Wendi) Diersing, Charles M. Diersing, Sheila (Bob) Blue, Christina L. (Steve) Zamarro, 5 Great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews of the Youngstown area.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 p.m., with K of C service at 7:30 p.m., prayer services at 8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St. (SR 36) Delaware. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, Delaware, Fr. Kevin Kavanagh Celebrant.
Additional calling hours will be held Saturday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the McVean & Hughs Funeral Home, 711 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Committal service 12:30 p.m. Calvery Cemetery, Youngstown.
