Robert Eugene “Bob” Carpenter, 73 of Sunbury and longtime Berkshire Township Trustee, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 10, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Bob was born in Cheshire, Ohio the ninth child of Henry Cleveland and Doshia May (White) Carpenter on August 24, 1940. He graduated from Westerville High School in 1958.

Survived by his wife Jacki (Marvin) Carpenter of 52 years, children Kym (Gene) Steiner of Lebanon, Ohio, Chip (Wendy) Carpenter of Sunbury, Melissa (Matt) Bell of Zanesville, grandchildren: Brooke (Eric) Gray of Topeka, KS, Derik, Chelsea and Allie Steiner of Lebanon, Lindsey and Austin Carpenter of Sunbury, Reily, Brady, and Delaney Bell of Zanesville, great-grandchildren Addison and Kinsley Gray.

Preceded in death by parents, infant son Bret Alan Carpenter, brothers Jim, Clarence, Henry Lee Carpenter, sisters Kathleen Perry, Effie Belknap, Hazel Evans, Cleo Williams, and Shirley Brobst.

Bob was retired contractor, for many years operating Bob’s Septic Service in addition to being a farmer.

His community involvement included 25 year adviser of Sunbury and Halter 4-H Club, member of Delaware County Fair Steer Sale Committee, 39 year member of Olentangy Western Riding Club, 23 year Berkshire Township Trustee, and served as a representative of BST & G Fire Board.

First and foremost Bob was a devoted husband and father. He was passionate about his children and grandchildren’s exhibiting of livestock at various fairs and shows.

Bob will be greatly missed by family and many numerous friends both locally and across the country.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will follow 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday with Rev. Richard Ellsworth officiating. Burial will follow in Berkshire Cemetery.
