Robert C. Higgins, age 90, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2019.  Born May 27, 1929 in Columbus, OH to the late Clyde and Rosalie Higgins.  Retired after 43 years with New Central Railroad as an Engineer.  Bob proudly served as a U.S. Marine in the Korean War and was especially grateful to participate in the U.S. Honor Flight in 2016.  He was a member of Mt. Zion Lodge #9 F&AM, Mt. Vernon, Scottish Rite – Valley of Columbus and Aladdin Shrine.  Bob especially loved woodworking, flying, traveling and attending the Tuesday Afternoon Lunch Bunch in Westerville.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years. Norma Jean Higgins; sisters, Phyllis Dattilo, Carol Salyers and Lois Meeker. Bob is survived by nieces and nephews, Diane Weissenfluh, James (Lynda) Weissenfluh, Mary A. (Bill) Beacom, Patricia Dattilo, Michael (Glenna) Dattilo and Kelly (Peter) Debus; great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.  Friends may call 10:00 am to 11:30 am on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. State Route 61, (at SR 3), Sunbury, where Masonic and Funeral Services will begin at 11:30 am.  Pastor Wayne Booth officiating. Interment with Military Honors to follow at Burnside Cemetery.  Contributions may be made to the Knox County Humane Society, 4000 Columbus Rd., Mt.   • Bob was such a nice gentleman and took such good care of Norma Jean. They were blessed to have each other and the world is a little less bright for not having their loving example in it.
