Robert “Bob” K. Wagner

Robert K. Wagner, AKA “Peanuts”, “Daddy Wags”, “Banker Benny”, age 84 of Mount Vernon passed away on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.

He was born on July 10, 1935 in Elyria, Ohio to the late Gerald and Bertha (Corkran) Wagner.

Bob was a graduate of Elyria High School, class of 1953 and then served in the United States Army from 1954-1956.  After his military career, Bob attended and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1960 where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree.  He started his banking career in 1963 with the Oberlin Savings Bank rising to the position of Senior Vice President.  He then graduated from University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking in 1967.  In 1981 he became Senior Vice President at the New Waterford Bank in New Waterford, Ohio.  In 1984 he became CEO and President of the Commercial and Savings Bank in Danville (now Killbuck Savings Bank).  He retired in January 1999.

In 1987 he was appointed by Governor Richard Celeste to the State of Ohio Bank Board and served until 1993.  He also served as past Director and President of the Community Bankers Association of Ohio and was past State Director of Ohio for the Independent Bankers Association of America.  He was a member of the Danville American Legion, The First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mount Vernon, and he served as a trustee on the board of the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County from 1987 to 2005.

Bob played Lacrosse at The Ohio State University and earned a Varsity “O” Letter.  He loved all Ohio State sports and was also a big NASCAR fan.  Bob was known to don a Red Nose in order to cheer up or raise people’s spirits.

He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Jean Wagner; his son Robin Wagner; his daughter Traci; several grandchildren; and his sister Mary Jane Wagner.

A celebration of life service will be on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 12:00 PM with an hour prior of visitation at the First Congregational United Church of Christ; 200 N. Main Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 with Rev. Scott Elliott officiating.  The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Robert K. Wagner.
