Robert “Bob” Beck

July 21, 1931 ‒ July 22, 2019

Mansfield, Ohio

LEXINGTON: Robert “Bob” Beck went to be with the Lord Sunday morning, July 21, 2019, only a day shy of his 88th birthday in Lexington Court Care Center.

He was born July 22, 1931 in Mansfield to parents Clarence & Norah (Smith) Beck. After he graduated from Johnsville High School, he proudly served his country by joining the US Army as a medic and served during the Korean War between 1951 and 1953.

It was during his time in the Army that Bob received letters from his friend’s sister Janice. The relationship blossomed from there and the two were married on July 23, 1954. Together they spent over 61 years together until she passed away in 2015. Now they are together again to be able to celebrate what would have been their 65th anniversary with each other.

Bob worked at Mansfield Tire as well as GM, where he worked many years before retiring.

Bob was a hard worker and always wanted to have something to do. He enjoyed building things as well as growing his garden. The birds in Johnsville will miss the many feeders that he had taken care of for them. But above all, Bob cherished his role as “Pop” always taking care of his family. He loved his family and they will miss him greatly.

He is survived by children Diana (Chester) Surgener, Randall (Lynn) Beck and Robert Beck; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and sister Marjorie Hudson.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife Janice Lou Beck; son Mickey Beck; grandson Christopher Badger; son-in-law Steven Badger, daughter-in-law Lori Beck; siblings Lauren, Audrey, Frederick Jr., Nellie, Shirley and Bonnie.

The Beck family will receive friends Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service honoring Robert’s life will begin immediately at 11 a.m. Pastor Ray Lynn will speak. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery where military honors will be performed by Bellville American Legion Post #535.

  • Diana,

I was so sorry to see the passing of Uncle Bob. We would visit with him whenever we were in Mansfield and went to see Aunt Shirley. My mother, Audrey was very fond of her younger brother. I notified my sister Marilyn, and our cousin Chuck of his passing. Please let your brothers know that we are thinking of you at this time.
