Richard Wayne “Shorty” York

MANSFIELD: Richard Wayne “Shorty” York passed away Monday evening, November 21, 2016 in the Arbors at Mifflin surrounded by his family. He was 69.
He was born April 22, 1947 in Athens, Georgia to parents Leon & Hazel (Hubbard) York. He earned his high school degree while proudly serving his country in the Army as a tunnel rat and the Navy as a machinist working at many shipyards in Florida even once he was discharged. He served 2 tours in Vietnam and even earned a Purple Heart.
Richard worked at Mama’s Touch of Italy, where he cooked the sauce in the kitchen and MVP Sports Bar and Grill. He enjoyed cooking Italian food. He attended Brookwood Way Church of Christ and was recently baptized.
In spare time, he took pleasure in watching Browns football, playing card games, especially Euchre and Rummy. He was a sweet guy and even use to enjoy singing at piano bars in Florida.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth York of Mansfield; children Nichole Bennett, Richard York Jr, Kimberly Williamson, Rebecca Jane Roberts, as well as 3 step children Jason, Cassie, and Jerry; many siblings as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
The York family will receive friends Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring Richard’s life will be held Monday, November 28, 2016 at 10 a.m. Tim Briggs will speak. Burial will follow in Rittman National Cemetery.
