Richard V. Johnston, 88, formerly of 208 Pershing Avenue, Galion, died Thursday, June 2, 2005 at Heartland of Bucyrus after a long illness.
Born April 7, 1917 in Pekin, ILL, he was the son of the late Frank Johnston and Margaret Helmig Johnston. He was preceded in death on August 24, 1997 by his wife, Glenna June Hoffman Johnston whom he married on June 5, 1937.
He was a graduate of Galion High School in 1935. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of First Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of American Legion Scarbrough Post 243, V.F.W. Post 4329 Galion and Polk Township AMVETS Post 1979, Galion, he owned and operated Johnstons Body Shop on Pershing Ave. for many years. He also worked for PECO II retiring after 22 years.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard D. “Dick” and Pat Johnston of Galion,
a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim Brocklesby of Galion, 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Louise Beall Johnston of Tucson, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Tanner, two brothers, Bill and Frank Johnston and a great grandson.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2005 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, with Rev. Timothy Keeler officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Full military graveside services will be conducted by the Galion/Crestline Veterans Organizations.
