Richard Turnbull Armstrong

Richard “Dick” Turnbulll Armstrong was born July 10, 1924, in Lincoln, NE and passed after a short battle with cancer one day shy of his 93rd birthday on July 9, 2017, a birthday he shared with his sister, Pearl Prall.
Dick attended Lincoln High School prior to joining the Navy, serving from 1941 thru 1947. He spent the major part of his WWII service as an Aviation Mechanic on the carrier USS Sangamon. He also spent time on the USS Princeton & USS Kearsarge.
After his service time in the Navy, he returned to Lincoln and worked for Walter Dill Construction for many years as a plasterer and brick layer. He closed out his masonry career at Lincoln Public schools in the maintenance department. Dick was a 50+ year active member of the Masons, VFW, American Legion and the Eagles. He missed his friends from the Eagles shuffleboard team.
His best memories from Ohio was participating in an Honor Flight he took with his son to Washington, D.C. , Bowling twice a week, and for a couple of years, playing darts. He also enjoyed going for boat rides on Apple Valley Lake.
His lifelong hobby of raising and training hunting dogs led him to become one of the founding fathers of the German Shorthair Club of Lincoln. He earned many championships over the years in both field trials and shows.
The love of his life for 71 years, Wilma “Jean” (Dill} Armstrong passed away in 2014.
After her death, he moved to Ohio to live near his son, Allen and daughter-in-law, Suzanne of Howard, Ohio.
Dick’s parents, Frank and Ida Armstrong preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son Allen and daughter-in-law Suzanne Armstrong of Howard, Ohio; two grandchildren, Alanna Anthony (Dan Keiser) of Palmerton, Pennsylvania and Jon (Jackie) Armstrong of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania; great grandchildren, Kasaundra, Zachary, Paige and Hannah Armstrong and Dalainey Keiser; step-grandson, Seth Nace; sister Pearl Prall and her family, also his niece, Jan Rank (Gill) and family, and nephew, David Hodtwalker (Annette).
Friends may call on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68512. Entombment will follow in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
