His commitment to his community did not end with farming. He was a Congress Township trustee for 22 years, held memberships in the Morrow County Farm Bureau where he was a council member, and Gideon’s. He was also an avid supporter of the Morrow County Fair.

A life time member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church, Dick was active in Men’s Group, served as a trustee, and was a past Sunday School Superintendent.

In his days of good health, Richard would never miss a Saturday Farm Sale. He would look for miscellaneous farm machinery for his own personal use or equipment he could fix up and resell.

He grew up showing and working Belgium Horses in his early years. He continued going to draft horse shows and sales.

Richard and his family raised and showed registered sheep at many county fairs and The Ohio State Fair.
