November 06, 1968 ‒ June 10, 2018

On June 10, 2018, Richard “Richie” Garcia, 49 of Delaware, Ohio lost a short battle to cancer while surrounded by his wife, children and immediate family.

Many of his friends describe him as a “gentle giant” who always put others before himself. He loved hosting parties where you could find him DJ’ing, telling a funny story or showing his wedding video as this was the happiest day of his life aside from the birth of his children.

In addition to his father, Oscar Garcia, he is preceded in death by his grandparents.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive (formerly 1510 W. William Street), Delaware, OH. William Street, Delaware, OH followed by a reception in the Snyder-Rodman Community Room hosted by the St. Mary Bereavement Committee.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made to the Richard “Richie” Garcia Memorial Fund. Checks can be mailed to: Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan, P.O. Box 279, Delaware, OH 43015. I can’t imagine what you all are going through. Know that I love you all and am praying for you immensely. I always remember Richie of being so nice and welcoming to me in your guys’ family. He was always so fun to be around on holidays and family vacations. I really enjoyed listening to his stories and he always made me laugh. I remember he was around for one of my first trips to NYC and he went skating with us at Rockefeller Center. I’ll remember him and think of him with a smile. I am so sorry for your loss and I love the three of you so much. I hope you will find peace and comfort.

  • Garcia Family,

We are so heartbroken that our dear friend Richie is no longer with us. Your family is our family and everyone that was Richie’s friend was family. He kept me out of trouble the best he could and was like a big brother. Lucy raised a good man that loved his family above all. I’m so thankful to have spent the last ten years his friend and neighbor. I have a ton of stories with Richie and he loved to tell everyone about something I did to make him laugh. I will miss him dearly and am sorry for your and his family’s loss.

  • To the Garcia family,

Even-though its been over 30 years that we graduated from high school together and we only had a few classes together, I do remember Rich being a kind and funny individual. He always reminded of a gentler Andre the Giant. He just did.
Please accept my condolence to every one in his family and friends.

  • Christine,
Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel for the unexpected loss of Richie.
During times like this, we find ourselves troubled by things we do not understand. There are no answers to comfort your grief, only lasting love and memories Richie, who was always smiling, happy, and full of life.
Our hearts go out to you and your family.

  • I love the profile picture you selected for this page of Richie. Says it all. Kind heart. Positive energy. Loving face. Great smile (and snicker). Sending love to all touched by his soul all these years. Can’t stop thinking about him — in a good way — all my memories of times spent together make me smile.

    Love and respect,

    Bobby (his cousin)

  • Richie,

    Love you!!

Role model father, husband, son, or trying to better yourself.
Class Act when it comes to personality. Like E.F. Hutton, When Richie put his foot down everyone listened.
He understood what it took to be a great man and lived his life accordingly.
    We are all devastated.
But we know a great man has joined the heavens!

I miss all of our special talks that we had together…
I will always treasure that time.

Thank you for you in our lives….

  • My deepest sympathies for your loss. I am so thankful I had the chance to spend time with all of you in Florida and get to know Richie. You are in my thoughts and heart, now and always.

  • Richie was like my brother since I was 8 years old. He has been a great friend over the years and I watched him become a great husband and father. We love him and he will be sorely missed by his New York family. RIP.

  • I remember Richie from the commodities trading floor in the World Trade Center. Truly one of the nicest guys down there. It has been decades since we crossed paths, but I will never forget him. RIP and condolences to his familia.

  • Christine, Lilliana & Cheech
Aunt Karen and Uncle Jon are so sorry for your loss – Richie was the best and will be greatly missed – our hearts are broken

Those we love don’t go away
    They walk beside us everyday
    Unseen, unheard, but always near
Still loved, still missed and very dear

Love you all to the moon and back
    Aunt Karen and Uncle Jon

  • To my good friend Richie,
    Thank you for being you!
A great family man, a great friend.
    I love you my brother!

  • Lilliana, Cheech, Christine, and Lucy,
I am so deeply saddened for you! Your dad (husband, son) was such a kind, caring, respectful man–the world will not be the same without him. Do you know that Heaven is outside of time? That means that you are already there with your dad (husband, son), even though you are still living in time here on earth. I know that nothing makes the hurt go away, but picture yourself with him in heaven (and he is there–I said a Divine Mercy Chaplet for him on Sunday), and know that you are already there in that world where time doesn’t exist.
    In Christ’s love,
    Sra. (Teresa) Milner

  • To the Garcia family:
I have fond memories of Richie and Christine spending weekends in my home, and Richie living with us during his high school years. My daughters remember him as a brother. We are in disbelief of his passing. He was always respectful, and thoughtful. I will always remember giving me a mother’s day card signing it “your son from another mother.” I cannot imagine the pain that his wife and children are going through. Lucy and Christine, your hearts are broken in little pieces. Don’t ever forget that although he is no longer near you, his love and care for his family will endure forever. The Lord God is always by your side. He will dry your tears and comfort your broken hearts. We may not understand why his life was cut short, but we trust that we are not alone. Keep each other close, and remember that Richie loved his family and friends and that his love and care must and will continue on. My daughters and I send our love and condolences to everyone that was touched by his love.
