Richard H. Smith, 77, of Delaware passed away Saturday afternoon, June 17, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born November 12, 1939 in Delaware County to the late Harold and Mabel (Franklin) Smith and later served in the Army National Guard.

On February 5, 1961, he married Norma Jean Slane and they celebrated 56 years of marriage together.

Richard attended the Eastside Mission Church in Delaware and he enjoyed camping, fishing and boating, especially on Lake Erie. He also enjoyed working on cars and boats but his true passion was spending time with his grandkids.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Norma Jean; son, James “Jim” Smith of Delaware; daughter, Sheila (Rob) Marcum of Delaware; grandchildren, Nicholas Marcum, Mandie (Jamie) Linn and Austin Smith; great grandchildren, Diego and Emily Reynoso, Arnold Varela, Nancy Kate Church, Caitlynn and Jarrod Linn; brother, Mike (Linda) Smith of El Paso, Texas; sister, Sandy Barrows of Delaware; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother Rodney “Hot Rod” Smith and his sister Mary Belle Fraley.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 4 – 8 pm at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive (formerly 1510 W. William Street), Delaware, where funeral services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery in Kilbourne.
