Richard Francis Spall SR., 78 of Delaware, died unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, March 4, 2003, while visiting family in Wheaton, Illinois. Mr. Spall was born on September 25, 1924 in Indianapolis, Indiana; he was the seventh child of Francis Forest Spall and Edna Pearl (Robbins) Spall. He was married on October 17, 1948 to Marjorie Jean Campbell, and the couple had five sons. Mr. Spall was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School (1942) and of Canterbury College (1948). He earned an M.S. from Purdue University in 1962.

A teacher for thirty-nine years with Logansport Community Schools, Mr. Spall was principal at Longfellow, McKinley, and Tipton Schools. While a resident of Logansport, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, an Elder at 9th Street Christian Church and the Baptist-Christian Church in Royal Centre. Highly involved with young people, Mr. Spall was for twenty-nine years an organizer and coach in the Logansport Summer Recreation Program.

Upon his retirement in 1988, Mr. and Mrs. Spall moved to Delaware, Ohio where they have resided since then. In Delaware, Mr. Spall was a chaplain in the Gideons, a member of the Go-fors, and Grace Brethren Church.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years; four sons, Richard

(Rosemary) and Michael of Delaware, Ohio; Curtis of Wheaton, Illinois; and Brian (Joyce) of Rockford, Ohio; as well as by one sister, Mrs. Betty Omalev of Fullerton, California; seven grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by one Son.

Friends may call Friday March 7, 2003 from 5-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William Street, Delaware where services will be held Saturday 10 a.m. with Pastor Darrell Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
