Richard E. Phillips, age 75 of Centerburg and formerly Mount Vernon, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday evening December 19, 2013 at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He was born on December 16, 1938 in Pulaskiville to the late Russell and Naomi (Axtel) Phillips.

He was retired from the Knox Community Hospital Maintenance Shop with 47 years of service and a US Army Veteran. Member of the Covenant Christian Church in Mount Vernon where he was a Deacon and on the Church Council.

Richard treasured time spent with his family and his church family. He enjoyed fishing and would do anything for anybody.

He is survived by his wife: Norma (DeVault) Phillips and they were married March 21, 2008 in Mount Vernon; sons: Richard Buxton of Warsaw, Jay Durtschi of Mount Vernon, Tony (Clarice) Durtschi of Glenford, James (Sherri) Durtschi of Buckeye Lake; daughters: Kathy (Joseph) Mapes of Mount Vernon, Ethel (Michael) Mapes of Ovid, Mich., Billie (Mike) Salisbury of Mount Vernon; 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; brother John (Katherine) Phillips of Mount Vernon; 3 nieces and 1 nephew.

Preceded in death by wife: Leota Totten Buxton Phillips.

Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury where services will be held Monday 1 p.m. with Pastors Tim Overly and Mark Tuggle officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be held in the Mount Liberty Cemetery.
