Richard E. Pershing, Sr., 91, passed away on December 22, from COVID-19.

“Dick” was born on December 3, 1929, in Dover Ohio, the only child of Ralph & Pauline Pershing.  After graduating from Dover High School in 1947, he moved to Columbus, Ohio and attended Office Training School for three years.

After serving two years in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, at Ft. Eustis, Virginia, Newfoundland, Labrador and Greenland he was discharged, from the Army Reserves, eight years later with the rank of Sgt. 1st Class.

He moved his family to Marion in 1953 and was employed by General Telephone Company as an accountant.  During that time he served on the board of directors as President of The Telephone Employees Association of Marion and was also a board member, Treasurer and President of the General Telephone Employees Credit Union for eight years.

In 1962 he became Manager of The North Electric Employees Credit Union in Galion and in 1964 was employed with The Ohio Credit Union League, Columbus, Ohio as Member Service Representative organizing sixty five credit unions for Marion, Mansfield, Lima, and Defiance areas.

In 1979 he retired and spent the balance of his life purchasing, renting and selling rental property in Marion.

He is survived by sons Richard Jr. (Kathy), Kiel, Wisconsin; Dennis (Kathleen), Lakeland, Florida; and daughter Beth (Elvin) Beach, Marion, Ohio. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Eric, Stephanie and Brett, Wisconsin; Alan, Columbus, Ohio; Andrew, US Navy, Marion, Ohio; Denny and Chelsea, Florida; Nicole, Toledo, Ohio. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jill Pershing.

Due to the current COVID-19 safety concerns, there will be no services at this time.  His family will observe a private celebration of life at a future date.
