Richard E. Oden

Richard E. Oden, age 86 of Columbus, died Monday morning August 2, 2010 at St Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.
Born on December 26, 1923 in Columbus to the late Elias Edward and Ada (Allard) Oden. Graduate of Central High School and a WWII Army Veteran, 1943-1946. Richard was a metallurgist for Battelle and had worked there since graduating high school except for his time in the active military. He had also served in the Army Reserves from 1946-1983 at Fort Hayes. A 63 year member of the Linden Lodge No. 637 F&AM and an Auxiliary Policeman for the Columbus Police Department for many years.
Survived by sisters: Ruth Hand of Columbus, Margaret (Chester) Klinedinst of Galena; nephews: Richard Hand of Mount Vernon, Chip (Cindy) Klinedinst of Sunbury; niece: Barbara (Randy) Shears of Cardington; 6 great nieces and 3 great nephews; faithful friend: Keith Hinton.
Preceded in death by niece: Cheryl O’Neal, brother-in-law: Jim Hand; niece: Connie Hand; 1 great niece and 1 great nephew.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Richard will be held Saturday August 14, 2010 at 3 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury. Inurnment will follow at a later date in the Union Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Ann’s Hospital and the staff at Countryview of Sunbury for the care given to Richard.
