Richard Earl Johnson, 90, of Fripp Island, South Carolina passed away peacefully after a short illness on Wednesday March 28, 2012 at Morrow County Hospital, Mount Gilead, Ohio.

He was born on August 9th 1921 in Carrollton, Ohio to Earl and Nina (Scott) Johnson. Richard graduated form Cambridge High School and The Ohio State University.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945, participating in the liberation of the Philippines. He spent much of his life in Amherst, Ohio working as a steel buyer for Standard Machine Screw Co. of Elyria. A member of the Hermit Club of Cleveland, Richard enjoyed the arts and theater. After retiring to South Carolina, he was involved with the Beaufort Little Theater and acted in numerous plays. He also thoroughly enjoyed performing small parts in many movies, including Forrest Gump, The Patriot, and Radio. He took up pottery making during his retirement and derived much pleasure in this creative outlet.

Richard will be sadly missed by his daughter, Carol King, son Scott Johnson, granddaughters Tracy (King) Schorner and Lauren Johnson, and grandsons Neil King and Andrew Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife Esther (Montgomery).

Interment Services will be held on Monday April 16th on Fripp Island.
