Richard E. Jagger, 79, of Mount Gilead, Ohio died Saturday, March 19, 2005 in Riverside Hospital.

He was born near Mount Gilead on December 14, 1925, the son of the late Jay and Mabel (George) Jagger. He graduated from Mount Gilead High School in 1943 and the Kings Point Maritime Academy while serving in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. He operated Jersey Knoll Dairy Farm and worked for Hartford Steam Boiler, the State of Ohio Division of Boiler Inspection, the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors, NASA – Kennedy Space Center, and for Stat Matrix until retiring.

Richard was a member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church, Gilead Lodge #206 F & AM, Mount Gilead Kiwanis Club, Alpha Twig at MCH, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Johnsville American Legion Post, and the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors. He had also served on the Mount Gilead School Board.

He is survived by his wife Betty Jo Hardman Jagger, whom he married Dec. 26, 1948; a daughter Judy (Greg) Mescher of Centerville, Ohio; two sons Dr. James (Kathleen) Jagger of Lexington, Kentucky and Dean (Beth) Jagger of Mount Gilead, Ohio; seven grandchildren Matt, Ted, Alison (David) Sutton, Nathan, Mark, Kristine and Carla; step-grandchildren Brooke and Grant; and a sister-in-law Joan Jagger of Mount Gilead, Ohio.

A brother Russell Jagger also preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the Craven Funeral Home in Mount Gilead on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Pastor Terry Ream will conduct funeral services there on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Morrow County Hospital Extended Care Unit or his church. Condolences may be expressed to the family at
