MANSFIELD: Richard E. Hedrick, 78, of Richwood Drive, Mansfield, died Thursday afternoon October 23, 2003 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a short illness.

He was born August 28, 1925 in Marion, Indiana to Ivan C. and Agnes V. Campbell Hedrick, was graduated from Hammond High School in Hammond, Indiana in 1944, and earned his Bachelors degree from Indiana University in 1953.

A US Army veteran, Richard served two years in the European Theater, specifically in the Bavarian Region. And during the Korean War, he served two years on the Korean Peninsula.

Richard’s career in retail management began with JCPenney Company, but most of his working years were spent as an independent sales representative.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served the congregation as a Stephens Minister and Deacon. Richard was also a member of the Mansfield Men’s Garden Club, Mount Zion Lodge #9 F&AM, and Baku Grotto.

An enthusiastic gardener, he also dearly enjoyed playing golf.

He is survived by his loving wife Willa Jean Herder Hedrick, whom he married July 26, 1953.

The funeral service will be held Friday, October 31, 2003 at 12 noon in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 399 South Trimble Road, Mansfield, with the Rev. Dr. David Hartzfeld presiding. Friends may call in the parlor of church from 11 am until time of the service. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery, where the Richland County Joint Veterans Council will hold graveside military honors.
