Richard E. “Dick” Harter

Richard E. “Dick” Harter, age 66, of Delaware died early Saturday morning, March 12, 2005 at Mount Carmel West.
He was born in Delaware, Ohio on November 18, 1938 to Ruby (Butts) Harter of Delaware and the late Charles E. “Chuck” Harter. He worked as a deputy for the Delaware Sheriff’s Department, he was an EMT and supervisor for the Delaware County Squad, and also was a security supervisor and K9 team member for Pinkerton Security and Investigation of Columbus. Dick was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, member of the Buckeye Sheriff’s Association, and a past member of the Eagles #376. He was also a member of the Mounted Deputy Sheriff Unit of Delaware. Dick loved traveling to Las Vegas and many different Riverboats to play “The Wheel” slot machine. He also enjoyed playing softball or any other types of sports, and watching Nascar. His favorite pastime was spending time with his granddaughters.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Pati (Stock) Harter, whom he married on June 11, 1960, Son: Michael (Rhonda) Harter of Delaware, Grandchildren: Kayla Marie and Brittany Renee Harter, Mother-in-law: Anna Jane Stock of Delaware, Brothers-in-law: Paul Stock II of Texas, John (Ginny) Stock of California, and Willie (Jamie) Stock of Statesville, North Carolina, Sisters-in-law: Mary (Bernard) Grogan of Westerville, Becky (Jeff) Perry of Delaware, Theresa Reider of California, and Debbie (Johann) Harich of California, and numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins, Special Nieces: Susie and Kathy Grogan, and Joan (Terry) Boutwell, Special Friends: Nancy and G.A. Stout and Martha Wood, and many other friends.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his Father-in-law: Paul Stock, Maternal Great Grandmother: Frankie Kelley, and Grandmother: Annie M. Butts, and many Aunts and Uncles.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., SR 36, Delaware. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 82 E. William St., Delaware, Father David Sizemore Celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
