Richard “Dick” Campbell, 71, of St. Rt. 61 N, Mt. Gilead, Ohio died Wednesday, December 7, 2000, in Titusville, Florida.

He was born in Xenia, Ohio on September 16, 1929, the son of the late E. Roland and Grace G. Ritter Campbell. His stepmother Gladys Brown Campbell also preceded him in death.

He graduated from Mt. Gilead High School in 1947 and attended Ashland College. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He co-owned and operated Campbell Auto Supply in Mt. Gilead for over 40 years until retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Pulaskiville Community Bible Church.

Throughout his life he was active in Scouting, as an Eagle Scout, and as both Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troop Leaders. He was a charter member of the Mt. Gilead Jaycees and member of the Cardington American Legion Post. He helped organize Mt. Gilead Youth Baseball and coached for several years. He announced the Mt. Gilead High School football games for many years in addition to being the starter for Mt. Gilead Track meets. Since retirement, he has volunteered at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, giving over 500 hours of service in the Visitor Center and conducting bird tours.

He is survived by his wife Beverly J. Myers Campbell, whom he married September 3, 1949; a son and daughter-in-law Rick & Ann Campbell of Mt. Gilead, OH; a daughter and son-in-law Lisann & Earl Boehm of Mt. Gilead, OH; 4 grandchildren Cory & Farah Campbell, Kurtis & Sarah Campbell, Cristopher & Kristy Boehm and Branton Boehm; and a brother and sister-in-law Duane & Sharon Campbell of Mt. Gilead.

Friends may call at the Craven Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Pastor Marvin Hintz will hold funeral services there Monday at 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Rivercliff Cemetery in Mt. Gilead.
