Richard “Denny” Schroeder

MANSFIELD: Richard “Denny” Schroeder, age 77, of Mansfield and Pompano Beach, FL, died in his Mansfield home on Thursday, July 31, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born August 24, 1930 in Mansfield to John and Elsie (Jewell) Schroeder and spent his entire life as a resident of the Mansfield area. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School with the class of 1950.
Denny began a long and successful career in the printing industry at Mansfield Photo Engraving Company at the age of 14. In 1968 he and a business partner purchased the Richland Printing Company on the corner of 5th and Diamond Streets. Later he was the founder of the present D&S Creative Communications, which has been located on Park Avenue East for the past 30 years. He retired as the CEO. He was also proud that he had served as a medic in the Ohio National Guard for 8 years.
He was a past member of the Mansfield Elks Club and a long-standing active member of the 51 Club. Besides his residence in Mansfield, he maintained a seasonal residence in Pompano Beach, FL, where he served on the Boards of Directors of the Palm Club and Coastal Arms. With his love of cooking and entertaining, he was a sought-after party planner, and he accomplished the status of a Certified Pastry Chef in Florida. During the early days of microwave cooking, he authored several cookbooks for the Tappan Corporation.
Denny’s knowledge and enthusiasm for technology and computers outpaced his generation, and he was instrumental in bringing Internet technology to the Richland County area as the founder of RICHNET.
Denny was known as a man with an open heart to all aspects of life and to every person he met.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Moorhead Schroeder; a son, Richard “Rick” Talmage Schroeder and wife Patricia of Mansfield; a daughter, Lesley Jeanne Francisco and husband Bill of Barto, PA; grandsons Chaz Talmage Schroeder and Austin Donald Schroeder of Mansfield; a sister, Patricia Caldwell and husband Richard of Clearwater, FL; and his wife’s daughters, Linda Moorhead White and husband Ted of Mansfield and Cynthia Moorhead Walker and husband Frank of St. Joe, MO and their children and grandchildren, along with nieces and cousins in the Mansfield area and Hanover, Germany.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Talmage Schroeder who died on February 16, 1980.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 12pm noon at the First Congregational Church 640 Millsboro Road, Mansfield, Ohio. The Rev. Clifford D. Schutjer will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
