MANSFIELD: Richard D. Beam, age 61, of Mansfield and formerly of Napa Valley, California, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a short illness.
He was born April 24, 1951 in Fairfield, California, the son of Richard Dix and Barbara LaRae (Phillips) Beam.
A U.S. Army veteran, Rick served a total of five years, including service during the Vietnam War, and in the Army National Guard. During his service he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal several times as well as Sharpshooter in Rifle.
Rick worked eleven years at Mare Island Naval ship yard as a pipefitter, working on nuclear submarines.
On June 11, 1969 he married Shirley Davidson with whom Rick celebrated 43 years of marriage.
Rick worked as a communications manager at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, California for over 24 years. He and Shirley moved to Richland County, Ohio this past May.
A Harley Davidson fanatic, Rick owned three bikes over the years. He was a member of the Napa/Solano H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) of which he was elected Assistant Director and Road Captain. Rick also enjoyed bowling and deep sea fishing.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Beam of Mansfield, two sons Shawn and Julie Beam of Mansfield and David Beam of Napa Valley, CA, two grandchildren Tanna and Tyler Beam, two sisters and brothers-in-law Stephanie and Robert Landon of American Canyon, CA, and Rachael and Mark Harrison of Las Vegas, NV, and nieces and nephews Elizabeth, Patrick, Phillip, Bobby, Steven, and Tiffany.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by a brother Michael Beam.
Cremation services are under the direction of the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home.
