Richard A. “Mac” McHenry, 68, of Galion passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 at his daughter’s residence after an extended illness surrounded by his loving family.

He was born November 25, 1949 in Galion and was the son of Richard V. and Elizabeth (Stinehelfer) McHenry.

Richard was a 1967 graduate of Galion High School and later he received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Columbus State. He worked as a CPA but had always wanted to be a Deputy Sheriff. Richard started working with the Pataskala Police Dept. and moved on to the Licking County Sheriff’s office and would end up with the Delaware County Sheriff Dept. Mac was a hardworking person, having owned several businesses while working as a deputy. He loved the outdoors and owned his own landscaping business. Richard enjoyed riding motorcycles, especially vintage bikes. He was an outgoing person and was often seen at Granny’s Kitchen and the former M&R Restaurant in Galion.

He is survived by his daughter Beth Shenberger and son-in-law A.J. Gray of Crestline; mother Elizabeth McHenry of Galion; grandchild Baylee Shenberger; great grandaughter, Lilli; brothers Dennis McHenry of Galion and Randy McHenry of Ft. Myers, Florida; his previous wife Barb McHenry Walters of Galion and his extended family.

Richard is preceded in death by his father, Richard Vere McHenry and his grandson Dylan McHenry.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2018 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Ash Welch officiating. Burial will be in Ontario Cemetery at a later date.

The family encourages people attending to wear Harley Davidson apparel or clothing supporting law enforcement.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Ohio Health Hospice in care of the funeral home.
