Richard A. Ashton, age 52 of Sunbury passed away Monday, June 12, 2006 at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio.

He was born on October 15, 1953 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Forrest and Meryl L. (Applegate) Ashton. A graduate of South Side High School Class of 1972, he earned a bachelors degree in education from Indiana University. Richard was in document imaging sales management for Fireproof Records.

He was an avid golfer and proud of his handicap. He tenderly cared for his yard and his love for the outdoors was shown through his yard landscape. He enjoyed music, people, and was known for his charismatic qualities. Described as loving, witty, intelligent, and just a “great guy”.

He is survived by Andrea DiOrio of Sunbury. Other survivors include her family: Michelle (Joe) McCague of Columbus, Erik Whitehead of Norwich, Connecticut, Grandchildren who made him smile: Erika and Rachael McCague. Sisters: Anita (Norman) McBride of Bunkerhill, Indiana, Arlene Repine, Ruth (Bob) Kumfer of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Alice (Alan Sasak of Gary, Indiana, Pamela (Michael) Mason of Nashville, Tennessee, Brothers: Jerry (Lori) Ashton and Terry Ashton of Fort Wayne, Indiana, several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at SR 61, Sunbury, where a service celebrating the life of Richard Ashton will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Chaplain Steven Rice officiating.
