MANSFIELD: Reva Race, age 72, of Mansfield passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 in Regency East Hospital following a long illness. Never one to buy into superstition, Reva believed Friday the 13th to be a day of blessings, the day the love of her life was brought into this world, and now the day she was taken to her heavenly home with her Savior.
She was born June 6, 1945 in Lebanon, Ohio the daughter of Zachariah and Gladys (McDaniel) Campbell, and was graduated from Lebanon High School.
On December 21, 1970 she married Robert E. Race, whom she knew was her soul mate the first time she laid eyes on him, though Robert needed a little more convincing. Devoted to one another they raised their girls in a Godly home, sharing 47 years together.
Reva worked for United Telephone in Lebanon and later as an operator at Sprint in Mansfield. Reva was well respected among her coworkers and made many connections with her “work family.”
A long-time member of Lincoln Heights Baptist Church, Reva was there to lend a hand with church meals and assist Robert with Sunday school. She loved singing Gospel Hymns, her home alive with the sound of her voice.
To Reva, family wasn’t just an important thing, it was everything! She put her family above all… her true priority. She used many of her talents caring for them, sewing clothes or quilting blankets to keep them warm, cooking them spaghetti, pumpkin pie, and even made to order fruit cakes, and most of all surrounding them with laughter and fun.
She is survived by her husband Robert Race of Mansfield, two daughters Joy Race of Mansfield and Jaime Ison and Lieutenant Colonel Jarrod Ison, U.S. Army, of El Paso, TX; four grandchildren Ashley Vaughn, Nikolaus Vaughn, Robert Michael Ison, and Lyndsey Ison; siblings and their spouses Bill and Joyce Campbell of Houston, TX, Brenda and William Wooten of College Station, TX, Rose Marie and Larry Fritts of Royse City, TX and Jack and Sandy Campbell of Ennis, TX; a brother-in-law Howard Roten of Mt. Vernon and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Lois Campbell Roten.
Friends may call Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 6-8 pm in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held Friday at 10 am. Pastor Mike Wilson, Pastor Chad Berry will officiate along with Reva’s brother Bill Campbell, and burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
