Rev. Merlin D. Vinign, 77 of Delaware died unexpectedly Thursday September 5, 2002 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

He was born in Kilbourne, Ohio to the late Carl and Dorothy (Fegley) Vining. He was a retired Methodist Minister serving the East Ohio Conference at various churches. He taught at the Methodist Theological School, Field Education and mentored Seminary Students there. Active at Asbury United Methodist Church with Pastoral Parish Relations and the Building Committee. He was a WWII Army Veteran and a former Prisoner of War.

He is survived by his second Wife: Shirley Ray Vining and they were married November 6, 1993. Step-Sons: Randall (Vicki) Smith of Galena, Roger (Wenda) Smith of Delaware and Daniel Pfeifer of Wooster; Step-Daughters: Sharon Bach of Delaware, Candee Reynolds of Marion and Linda Pfeifer of Wooster; 15 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren.

Sister: Grace (Dick) Beaver of Galena; Nephews: Jim (Marty) Beaver of Marion and Bill (Janet) Ashburn of Kansas, MO.; Nieces: Joyce (Rick) Beck of Westerville and Jean Ann (Jim) Schlichting of Washington DC.

Preceded in death by his first Wife: Verna Ashburn Vining on September 16, 1989.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William Street, Delaware. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 10:30 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 55 W. Lincoln Ave., Delaware. Interment with Military Honors by the Delaware County Veterans Assoc. in the Green Mound Cemetery.
