Rev. James P. Neely, 92, of Columbus died Monday evening at Grady Memorial Hospital, Delaware. He was born May 16, 1915 in West Virginia to Oliver Carlisle Neely and Minti Arabell (Kelly) Neely. He was a coal miner and later had retired from Columbus Coated Fabrics. He built the church building and founded the Church of God on Seldom Seen Road in Delaware County and he pastored at Shawnee Hills Independent Church of God. He is survived by 2 daughters, Betty Stevenson of Powell and Judy Schwanz of Middletown; a nephew who he raised, Ronald Grabill of Boynton Beach, Florida; 8 grandchildren, Deborah Bocanegra, Valerie McHugh, Christina Meadows, Kenneth Schwanz, Donald L Stevenson Jr., James P. Stevenson, Stephen Stevenson, and Khristina McPherson; 26 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; sister, Beulah Hatfield of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife Sherlie in September 2005 and 6 brothers. The family will receive friends on Sunday July 8th from 2 – 5 pm at the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, Delaware and where funeral services will be held on Monday July 9th at 2:00 pm.
