LEXINGTON: Regina H. Sawman, 89, formerly of Bella Vista Avenue, Lexington, died Sunday morning March 17, 2002 in Lexington Court Care Center.

She was born March 9, 1913 in The Hague, Netherlands, to Anthony and Gertrude (Mooy) VanHesteren.

Regina spent most of her life in Greenville, Michigan, where she had worked 26 years as a sales clerk with Alma’s Ready-to-Wear, retiring in 1987.

She attended First Congregational Church of Greenville, had worked for the Greenville Board of Elections, and moved to Lexington in 1990.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law Thomas A. and Sandra Sawman of Pinckney, Michigan, Richard J. and Sharon Sawman of Albany, Kentucky, and formerly of Lexington, and Dennis B. and Sherrie Sawman of Salem; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jay M. Sawman in 1992; two brothers Peter VanHesteren, John VanHesteren; and a sister Rekee VanderPloeg.

Friends may call Tuesday March 19, 2002 from 5-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Visitation continues Thursday March 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in Hurst Funeral Home, 1801 West Washington Street, Greenville, Michigan, where the funeral service will be held Friday at 11 am. Burial will follow in Grandville Cemetery, Grandville, Michigan.

Memorial contributions to the Parkinson’s Foundation may be made at the funeral home.
