AMELIA, VIRGINIA – Former Lexington resident Raymond L. Eckels, age 79, of Amelia, Virginia, passed away Friday, September 2, 2011.

Retired from the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Eckels had worked as an engineer with United Telephone Company in Mansfield and formerly managed TDS Telephone Company in Amelia. He was a member of Amelia County (VA) Business Association and the Amelia Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife Graham Eckels; his son Brad Eckels of Amelia; daughters and sons-in-law Linda & Tom Pfizenmayer of Lexington, Diane & Steve Kalliantas of Powell, Deborah & Greg Owens of Mansfield, and Elaine Eckels of Mansfield; a stepdaughter B.G. Borum of Jetersville, VA; along with 13 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Mr. Eckels was preceded in death by his first wife Donna L. (Graffius) Eckels on September 23, 1988. Also deceased is his son David Eckels.

A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held Friday, September 9, 2011 at 2 p.m. in Oak Grove Memorial Park, near Lexington. Pastor Rick Nuzum will officiate.
