Raymond E. LaBenne, age 88, of Mount Vernon, died Friday February 13, 2009, at the Centerburg Pointe Health Care Center in Centerburg. Raymond was born August 28, 1920 in Maumee, Ohio to Ferdinand and Georgette (Dourlet) LaBenne and graduated from Blissfield High School in Blissfield Michigan in 1938. He served with the United States Army during World War Two when he worked as an aircraft body mechanic. Raymond was retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries in Mount Vernon where he had been employed as a glasscutter.

He was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon and the International Glass Cutters Union.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years Louise “Robbie” (Robinson) LaBenne; his daughter and son-in-law Marguerite (Jeffrey) Schafer of Tipp City; his sons and daughters-in-law Michael (Gail) LaBenne of Mount Vernon and Edgar (Mely) LaBenne of the Philippines; and 11 grandchildren Christopher LaBenne, Laura LaBenne, Emily LaBenne, Olivia LaBenne, Justin Schafer, Jena Schafer, Maria Schafer, Joshua LaBenne, Mary LaBenne, Kevin LaBenne and Miranda LaBenne. Besides his parents Raymond was preceded in death by a brother Marcel LaBenne and a sister Marguerite Coyle.

Friends may call Monday from 5pm to 7pm at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon where a Rosary Service will follow the calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday at 10 am at Saint Vincent de Paul Church in Mount Vernon. Monsignor Carl Clagett will be Celebrant. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
