Ray L. “Billy” Bennett, 68, of Marengo and Ashley, died Tuesday evening at Bennington Glen Nursing Home, Marengo. He was born May 5, 1940 in Adams County, Ohio to Ray and Thelma (Bennett) Barns. He was a truck driver for Yellow Freight and a member of the Alum Creek Evangelical Friends Church, Marengo where he was a member of the Friday Men’s Group. He also was a member of the Teamster’s Union #413 for 27 years and he enjoyed eating and mowing grass. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marva J. (Kirk); son, Jeff (Shirl) Bennett of Delaware; 3 daughters, Linda (Gary) Swope of Ashley, Donna (Rex) Parker of Hillsboro, Ky., and Rita (Paul) Marion of Kentucky; grandson whom he raised as a son, Joe (Erica) Bennett of Marengo; 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; favorite aunt, Mildred “Cutsie” Brooks of New Vienna, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends on Monday March 16th from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Alum Creek Evangelical Friends Church, 3385 St. Rt. 229 E, Marengo.
