Ralph Emmett Daily, age 84, of Mount Vernon, died Friday September 7, 2007 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. Ralph was born July 19, 1923 in Eaton, Indiana to Charles and Louise (Daily) Dudelston and was adopted at an early age by his maternal grandparents Emmett and Dora (McCune) Daily.

Ralph joined the United States Navy during his senior year in high school, and served his country for 20 years during World War Two and the Korean Conflict, retiring with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Following his military career, Ralph joined the United States Postal Service and retired as Superintendent of Postal Operations at the Mount Vernon Post Office.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Lodge #9 Free and Accepted Masons in Mount Vernon, 32nd Degree Mason with Valley of Columbus Consistory, Scottish Rite, and was a member of Aladdin Temple Shrine in Columbus. He was a former member of Kam Ram Grotto and the Baldwin Shrine Club, both in Mount Vernon. Ralph was also a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Mount Vernon.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years Pauline (Grossnickle) Daily; his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Terri Daily of Harrison, Ohio; his daughter and son-in-law Mary Jo and William Levering of Fredericktown; grandchildren Jason Daily, Kristen Daily, Billy (Shannon) Levering, Joseph Levering and Amanda Levering; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by a baby daughter Marsha Kay and his brother Frederick Daily.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon where friends may call from noon until time of services on Wednesday. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
