Rachel Kathleen (Drum) Piper, age 88, of Sunbury, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.  She was born in Stoutsville, Ohio on September 29, 1929 a daughter of the late Ross and Mabel Bernadine (Stein) Drum.

A graduate of Stoutsville High School, Rachel was a homemaker and a member of the Harlem Township Garden Club, Harlem Grange and United Commercial Travelers.  Over the years, she worked at Battelle Memorial Institute, Glenn Evans Insurance, The Sunbury News and the ADAMH Board of Franklin County.  She faithfully attended Sunbury Church of the Nazarene.  A fiercely independent, loyal and honest person, Rachel loved gardening, cooking and her family.

In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Gene Piper; daughter, Jeanette Piper Greene; sister, Dorothy Starbuck; brothers-in-law, Frank Starbuck, John Dye, Henry Schaefer, Bob Gresham, Lee Piper, Raymond Piper, Merle Piper, Rolland Pestel, Jim Thompson and Paul Rhodeback; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Pestel, Marie Rhodeback, Carol Piper, Mary Thompson and Mary Lou Piper.

Rachel is survived by sons, Larry (Debra) Piper of New Albany and Jeff (Brenda) Piper of Sunbury; grandsons, Ryan Piper and Bradley (Nikki) Piper; granddaughter, Sarah (Matthew) Kidd; great-granddaughter, Laekyn Piper; step-grandchildren, Natalie (Jon) Rumpff and James Eastwood; step-great-grandchildren, Brice Rumpff and Zane Rumpff; sisters, Florence Dye, Evelyn Schaefer, Mildred Gresham and Becky (Don) Ramey; brother, Richard (Nancy) Drum;; brother-in-law, Carl Piper; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Piper and Bobbie Piper; son-in-law, George Greene; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call from 2 PM to 4 PM Sunday, June 17, 2018 at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 State Route 61 North (at SR 3), Sunbury, where Funeral Service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, June 18, 2018.  Pastors Larry DeWitt and Keith Martinez officiating.  Interment Fancher Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Sunbury Church of the Nazarene, Vans Valley Community Church or the American Heart Association in Rachel’s memory.  Condolences and memories can be shared with the family at: www.snyderfuneralhomes.com
